Present situation and potentialities of waste management in developing countries

Abstract

In developing countries the valuable constituents of the solid wastes are utilized only to a small extent. Whereas the materials reused by the industry, i.e. metals, glass, Paper and plastics, are frequently selected - however without sufficient efficiency - the organic components of the garbage are disposed in landfills. In order to improve the situation in developing countries, it should be tried to install inexpensive plants capable of selecting materials from the refuse as well as of composting the organic matter.

Gegenwärtiger Stand und Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten der Abfallwirtschaft in Entwicklungsländern

In den Entwicklungsländern werden die im Hausmüll enthaltenen Wertstoffe nur zu einem geringen Teil genutzt. Während der industriell verwertbaren Stoffe, wie Metalle, Glas, Papier und Kunststoffe oft wenig effektiv aussortiert werden, gelangen die organischen Bestandteile meist auf die Deponie. Es sollte daher versucht werden, in diesen Ländern Anlagen mit möglichst geringem Aufwand zu errichten, in denen die industriell verwertbaren Stoffe aussortiert und die organischen Bestandteile kompostiert werden.
