Focus and Scope

The Journal of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Tropics and Subtropics publishes original research and review articles on agriculture, natural resources, and rural development in tropical and subtropical regions. Core areas include:

  • Plant production and crop science

  • Animal nutrition, animal sciences, and animal health

  • Soil science and land management

  • Rural economy, farm management, and agricultural policy

  • Forestry and forest economics

The journal also welcomes interdisciplinary work related to One Health, the SDGs, and resilient food systems.

Peer Review Process

JARTS typically obtains two independent peer reviews for each manuscript. If the reviewers’ assessments diverge substantially, a third review or an editorial evaluation may be requested. In some cases, editors may return manuscripts to authors before external review with preliminary comments intended to strengthen the submission and improve its prospects for acceptance.

 

Publication Frequency

Articles are published on a continuous‑publication basis and added to the Table of Contents of the ongoing volume once authors approve the final proofs. Until 2025, JARTS appeared in two issues per year. From Volume 127 (2026) onward, the journal publishes one annual issue, while continuing to release articles online throughout the year. A printed version of the annual issue will be released in January of the following year.

 

Open Access Policy

JARTS provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Our articles are freely available online and for download. You may copy, distribute and transmit the work with proper attribution under the following conditions:

Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

 

Reviewers

Reviewers are registered by the editorial office and receive their login details and review requests via email.

The review evaluation form can be downloaded [» here]. Evaluation results may be copied and pasted into the online review form (accessible through the link provided in the review request email).
