Germination capacity of mexican wheat varieties under saline conditions

Peter Wolff, Ernst-August Heller

Abstract

The influence of salinity on the capacity of germination of 7 high yielding mexican wheat varieties and one variety of Tunesia were tested. The results show, that the mexican wheat varieties tested are less resistant in general and that there
are differences between the different mexican varieties. Since good emergence of the seedlings within the shortest delay is of prime importance for the development of a good stand and high yield, a relative resistance to high salt concentrations
is important. Further investigations with mexican wheat varieties in this respect should be carried out.
