Effect of socio-economic development on the health and nutritional status of the population in the Khon Kaen district in northeast Thailand

Abstract

Health and nutritional status of the population in a dam area in northeast Thailand were studied in correlation with their socio-economic development. The results showed that despite a high average annual income per household in the irrigation area, no significant improvement in health and nutritional status was found, as judged by prevalence of anemia and parasitic infections, anthropometric measurements and some biochemical Parameters.

Einfluss sozioökonomischer Entwicklung auf den Gesundheits- und Ernährungszustand der Bevölkerung in der Khon Kaen Provinz im Nordosten Thailands

Der Gesundheits- und Ernährungszustand der Bevölkerung im Zusammenhang mit ihrem sozio-ökonomischen Wachstum in einem Staudammgebiet im Nordosten Thailands wurde untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß trotz des höheren Einkommens der Haushalte
keine signifikante Verbesserung der Gesundheits- und Ernährungssituation festgestellt werden konnte. Untersucht wurde die Häufigkeit der Anämie, das Auftreten parasitärer Infektionen, anthropometrische sowie einige biochemische Parameter.
